Kristin Davis in High Rise Citizens

Add Kristin Davis to the growing list of celebs wearing high rise jeans.  Here she is in the 'Dragon Fly' Super High Rise Jean from Citizens of Humanity.  Both the trouser leg and the dark Darlington wash of these denim pants is slimming to pear shapes like Davis.  The jeans have curvy side pockets and a double back yoke that was inspired by dragonfly wings.  The inseam is 34 inches, the rise is 10 inches, and the price is now 40% off!         

Review of Genetic Denim Mutated Gene

I bought my first pair of Genetic Denim Mutated-Gene jeans about a month ago.  (I'm including a pic - these are on clearance, so you'll have to act fast!)  So, here are my thoughts. 

The length on the Mutated Twisted Seam Wide Leg Jean was great (a 35" inseam), and seemed true to size for a trouser jean - I've noticed that trouser jeans and wide legs often run just slightly longer than a boot cut jean.  So, I can't wear them with flip flops or flat flats, but they're great with a shoe that has more of a heel.  The blue-black denim wash is classy and slimming, and the back pockets are refreshingly simple. 

The thing that surprised me the most about this jean was the stretch!  I knew before buying that it was constructed from 98% cotton and 2% elastane, but when I tried them on, I swore there was a higher elastane content.  I took them to my tailor and asked her to take the waist in (which is typical for me), and I joked with her that I could keep them as-is and wear them as maternity jeans (if and when the time comes).  But, I was anxious to wear them now. :)  So now they fit like they should in the tummy, but there is still a good deal of give to the jean, so they might be perfect for those of you tall gals who are in your first trimester or have just given birth.  All in all, these are comfortable, flattering wide leg jeans that you can expect to look great with a heel.

akademik Jeans

Dreamgirl and Sex and the City co-star Jennifer Hudson is crazy about akademik jeans, and we just added the line to Search By Inseam.  In her recent interview with InStyle magazine, Hudson said, "They're so cute and comfortable.  And they're long enough for me - I'm 5 foot 8.  I fell in love with them when I was shooting Sex and the City.  Now I have about five pairs." How to Organize Your Closet

I've been meaning to post on this article from People's Stylewatch April 2008 issue for about 3 months now.  Better late than never!  Here are 5 great tips from Barbra Horowitz, personal stylist, author of Closet Control and host of Fashion 411:

1. Shed some light on the subject.  Make sure your closet is well-lit so you can see what you have, and also invest in a full-length mirror.
2. Merchandise it like a favorite boutique.  When you walk into a store while shopping and can't figure out the layout, you get overwhelmed and leave.  It's the same with your closet - if you like the way it looks and feels, you're less likely to become stressed when trying to figure out what to wear.  Organize your clothes in a way that makes sense - grouping by type of item or by color, for example - and, put anything that's new/exciting front and center.
3. Consider resale.  If you buy new clothes knowing that you will eventually sell them, you'll get into a regular purging mindset and also be able to afford more expensive items (retail price minus resale cost equals your true cost).  Horowitz' motto is: "Own it first, wear it fast, sell it quickly, repeat process."
4. It's not about the weather.  You should pack away bikinis in winter and heavy coats in summer, but refrain from organizing your closet by season because Horowitz says you can miss out on great styling moments this way.  She says, "Fashion happens when we wear opposites - a turtleneck with a chiffon evening top over it."
5. Maintain.  And here's my favorite quote from Horowitz: "Your wardrobe is like your front lawn or your hair.  It needs constant maintenance.  If your closet is tightly pruned all year, you'll have far less work keeping it in order"  (p. 44). Well said!

Cameron Diaz in Turquoise Jeans
