Review of Liverpool Jeans Brenna Denim Trousers

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I got my first Stitch Fix outfit and was in love with it. I loved the vest, the sweater AND the jeans. Now after wearing them a few times, here is my review of Liverpool Jeans Brenna Denim Trousers. Tall girls, listen up! These jeans are tall girl approved. So are the sweater and vest, for that matter.

So, the jeans. I had never even heard of Liverpool Jeans before I got my Stitch Fix box last month. How have I not known about this denim company after running SearchByInseam.com for a decade now?! I have no idea. It’s a British company, I guess, and I’m not British. So anyway, I was a little skeptical when I took the pair of dark wash jeans from my Stitch Fix box. I pulled them on and was instantly impressed. The softness! The stretch! These are truly the most comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever worn. And I’ve worn a lot of jeans!

These Brenna Denim Trousers are made for exclusively for Stitch Fix, so you can’t get them anywhere else. I’d told my stylist that I needed exactly a 35″ inseam and I preferred boot cut jeans. I wrote that I normally wore a size 30 in jeans, but somehow she knew I’d wear a 29 in these. They fit me like a glove!

Here I am in the entire outfit: jeans, sweater and vest.

Here is a closeup of the jeans. The leg does look a little funny because I’ve got tall boots on underneath the jeans. I still need to find a pair of ankle boots that I like and aren’t huge and sloppy around the ankle…

My Review of Liverpool Jeans Brenna Denim Trousers

The wash of these jeans is very dark – a solid navy. I think it pairs well with a black boot, but the style card that came with the outfit suggested a brown ankle boot for more contrast. I think brown boots would work well, but I do like the low contrast option as well. It makes the legs seem even longer!

My First Stitch Fix Outfit

I think I’m hooked, you guys. My first Stitch Fix outfit is awesome! The box arrived a few weeks ago and everything fit! I couldn’t believe it. I told them I needed tops with long arms and long torso lengths, and jeans with a 35″ inseam length. Well, my first box had four great tops, but sadly only one was machine wash. I forgot to tell them I only want pieces that are machine wash. 🙁 So, I kept one top. The jeans fit great, except they were a tad too long. I measured them at a 35.5″ inseam. It doesn’t seem like much, but I don’t want my jeans to look sloppy. And I rarely wear heels with jeans, so they were just enough too long that I had to send them back.

After you get your box, you go online to “check out.” You rate every piece and provide written feedback as well. I then asked if I could have my second box soon, since I only kept one top from this shipment. My second box came last week and I loved everything! I kept all 5 pieces and got the 25% off discount for keeping them all. Here’s a pic of my first Stitch Fix outfit:

The jeans are dark wash Brenna Denim Trousers from Liverpool Jeans. They have a lot of stretch in them and are SO comfortable. I love them! I’d never even heard of Liverpool Jeans before, and thought it was so fun to try a new brand. As a tall girl, I approve of these jeans, sweater and vest.

The sweater is cream with navy details at the hip and really cool zipper detailing on the back. (Why did I forget a picture of that?) It’s from 41 Hawthorn and is the Byani Color Block Zipper Back Pullover. The vest is Fate Rowen Faux Leather Quilted Vest. I love the collar and it keeps me warm on these cool fall days. The black boots in the picture are my own. Stitch Fix doesn’t yet offer shoes in size 11 . Hopefully they will in the future! Also in my Fix this time was a 41 Hawthorn Ellissa Cotton Blend Textured Weave Pullover in black and white, and the Westinn Strappy Neckline Knit Top from Olive & Oak. I would never had chosen the strappy neckline top for myself, but it totally works on me. So far, so good for Stitch Fix!

39″ Inseam Yoga Pants

39″ inseam yoga pants exist! Yes, they actually do! I couldn’t believe it when I saw these yesterday. I added them to SearchByInseam.com right away. They are the longest pair of yoga pants I’ve ever seen.

Wearing a Shift as a Top Works Well for Tall Frame

Who else knew that wearing a shift as a top works well for a tall frame? I just learned this to be true, and it feels like I stumbled across an incredible tall girl secret!

I’m wearing a shift as a top instead of a dress – and it actually works for me! I’d normally nix the idea of wearing such a short mini dress because I’m so tall it would be super short. But I’ve been following Tanasha of Pretty Tall Style for a few weeks now and she pulls it off so well! I never thought of this idea until I saw her do it. She is 6’4″ (which is 4″ taller than me) and I love how she wears this blue mini dress as a top. I’ve never thought of wearing a short dress as a top before, but it works so well with skinny jeans! (See my post about how long skinny jeans should be here.) I’m sure it would be great with leggings too, and I have the perfect $10 pair for you.

I don’t think the look would work well with a bootcut or flared leg jean. You need something slim on the bottom to balance the top. So, after seeing Tanasha nail the look, I decided to try the trick of wearing a shift as a top for myself. I ordered this Corey Red Kendra Shift from Rent the Runway as part of my Unlimited subscription.

Wearing a Shift as a Top Works Well for Tall Frame

This shift is the best, brightest color of orange. I love it how pops! It has a perforated pattern that is really fun and has handy side pockets. There is lining from the shoulder to the hemline. The three-quarter-length sleeves aren’t lined, so your skin is visible through the holes on the arms. I received a lot of compliments on the shift and I liked how it looked with my Hudson Nico Elysian Mid Rise Skinny Jeans and my Earthies nude flats that have amazing arch support (and are available in sizes 5-12 on Amazon).

Other Rent the Runway reviewers wrote that they wore this as a short dress. I think I’m the first one to wear it as a top with jeans! I’m going to have to try this again! No more ruling out short dresses; I’ll just re-purpose them! Thanks to Tanasha of Pretty Tall Style for letting me in on this fashion secret for tall women. 🙂

Designer Maternity Jeans: Are They Worth It?

Are designer maternity jeans worth it? I mean, you only wear them for a few months, maybe longer if you’re pregnant more than once… But the price tag is steep – usually around $200. That’s a lot when you’re looking at setting up a nursery and acquiring all that necessary baby gear.

When I first started Search By Inseam, it was about 2 years before I was pregnant. I wasn’t shopping for maternity jeans for myself yet, but I was adding them to the site. I was also shopping for tall women who needed extra long maternity jeans. It was tough to fill their requests, as there just wasn’t much out there in longer lengths. There were usually a couple options of long maternity jeans in a 34″ inseam, but not anything longer. What I noticed then was that anything longer than a 34″ inseam tended to be a designer maternity jean. And the price jumped by at least $100 on average to move into that designer jean category.

Why are designer maternity jeans so expensive? It’s simple: you are paying for quality. In many cases, you are also paying for USA craftsmanship as well. The denim is high quality and the buttons are high quality. But the big thing – the elastic belly panel – is much higher quality than a non-designer maternity jean’s belly panel. If you try on regular maternity jeans and designer maternity jeans, you’ll know right away that the belly panel on the designer pair is going to stay up. It’s not going to fall down on you and it’s not going to stretch out like a regular maternity jean panel will. It hugs your baby bump and provides so much support that you’ll want to wear that panel all. the. time. I’m not kidding. Designer maternity jeans fit in the butt and the gut. They flatter your shape and the denim is soft and comfortable.

I have a 35″ inseam, so when I was pregnant my only options were designer maternity jeans. That was just fine with me, because I loved my Citizen’s Bootcut Maternity Jeans so much! They made any outfit flattering. I only needed to add a pair of comfortable flats and a maternity top, and I was good to go. I wore them for about 8 months total over two pregnancies. My belly never got very big. I think that was because my torso was so long and both boys were so low in my uterus that it took forever to really look like I was pregnant.

I paid about $180 for the jeans and wore them for about 8 months, which comes to $22.50 per month for a great pair of jeans. To me, that price was totally worth it. If you’re unsure if designer maternity jeans are worth it for you, I’d encourage you to do the math. Figure out how much they cost, how many months you think you’ll wear them, and what that works out to per month of wear. I only needed one pair of maternity jeans (no other pants, skirts, or dresses were needed) and a few tops, so I actually spent very little overall on my maternity wardrobe. Tall Women’s Fleece Pullover – Review

I’ve been looking for a tall women’s fleece pullover that’s super soft and I found a good one!

After a really long winter spring has finally sprung in Seattle. I haven’t put away my winter clothes just yet, though! I get cold easily and I love to be warm and snuggly when I’m at home – or really anywhere I guess… My two sweet boys each have a fuzzy children’s fleece pullover from Hana Andersson that they love and affectionately call their “Fuzzy.” I kept telling them, “I want my own Fuzzy!” 🙂 But a women’s tall fuzzy fleece pullover is tough to find. This Women’s Patagonia ‘Re-Tool’ Snap Pullover in coral fits the bill for a fuzzy tall women’s fleece pullover. I’m crazy about the vibrant coral color! It’s perfect for spring and makes me think that it’s not too late to be buying a warm, cozy fleece pullover. Even though it IS April after all…

The details:
This pullover has a kangaroo hand-warmer pocket in front that is similar to the front pocket on a hooded sweatshirt and is great for feeling snuggly. The snap pocket is a bit retro and the neck snaps all the way up to keep you even warmer. While it’s not marked as a women’s size tall, the body and sleeves fit my long arms and long torso on my 6-foot tall body, so I think I can safely say that this is approved for tall women out there like myself! Hurry, run – get your own Fuzzy before it’s too late! 🙂

Review of Petite Plus StayShape Jeans

This is written by Amanda, who is a childhood friend and was given a pair of petite jeans in exchange for writing this review. I’m too tall to review petite jeans myself! 🙂

Worst things to experience for me: 1. wet socks; 2. bra shopping; 3. jeans shopping…until I discovered Search By Inseam!

For me, it has been challenging since junior high school to find jeans that fit my inseam. Then, since my curves have grown curvier in my thirties, the challenge to find jeans that fit both my waist and inseam – and that don’t have too much stretch that cause sagging crotch – has become even greater.

Finally though, the solution has been found! Eddie Bauer StayShape Jeans live up to the promise to be jeans that “fit you perfectly, and always keep their shape.” I have been wearing the petite jeans with a 30 inch inseam, straight leg, and dark wash once a week for just over a month. The jeans have been washed a few times and have kept their shape.

Initially, I was shocked at how dark the dark wash really was. All my other dark washes at least have had a faded area at the top of the thighs. Once I got over the shock of an all-over dark wash, I found that I really had several items in my closet that work well with the look, and it’s a more professional look than the others in my collection. I chose straight leg because everything else I have is either skinny or boot cut and I wanted something more versatile with my footwear. I can wear the jeans with flats, ankle boots, long boots (under the pant leg – haven’t tried over the leg yet and probably won’t) and on those days when I’m walking right after work or running errands with my four year old, sneakers.

Did I mention that the jeans really are comfortable? No sagging crotch. The waist band stays in place – no hiking up the waist every time I stand up or as I’m walking.

Best things to experience for me: 1. hugs and snuggles with my son; 2. everything about being a mom to my son; 3. jeans shopping through Search By Inseam.

Review of Tall Gap Utility Jacket

I bought this Gap Women’s Utility Jacket in Spring Coral last month and it’s huge! I love the color, but how can this be a small? I cinched it up as much as I could, but it’s just too bulky to be flattering. The fabric is stiff, which I expected, but smells like petroleum. It also looks like it’s all pockets to me. So I’m sad to be sending this back, but it’s just not going to work for me. Gap, when you make something this oversize, please make it in a Tall Extra Small. That might have worked for me. You make a Regular Extra Small, so why not do that with a tall size as well? Just because we are tall doesn’t mean we are also large.

Review of My $10 Leggings

I’ve been wearing some old Hot Chillys ski leggings for years and finally decided to get something new and more comfortable. So without further ado, here’s a review of my $10 leggings from Amazon!

I found these Leggings Depot Ultra Soft Basic Solid Plain Best Seller Leggings Pants for just $9.99 on Amazon and thought I’d take a chance. No inseam was listed and they are “one size fits all” so it was a risk with my long legs. But at just $10, I figured it was a small risk. 😉

I normally wear a 35″ inseam in bootcut jeans, and I am happy to report that these are long enough and fit me well. I measured them with a flexible sewing tape measure and found out that they have a 27″ inseam length. This is deceiving, because they stretch quite a bit. They reach down to my ankle bone, which I’ve measured before at a 31″ inseam. (See my post about How Long Should Skinny Jeans Be?) These leggings are super soft and feel like suede! They definitely don’t look or feel like a $10 pair of leggings. I bought them in black, but they come in lots of colors.

These $10 leggings would be great tucked into boots or booties for fall, or with flats or heels the rest of the year. They work well with longer tops, jackets, and even dresses or skirts. I have a friend who always wears leggings under her skirts and dresses in the winter. She says it keeps her a lot warmer than a thick pair of tights.
